A team from the Birmingham office of law firm DLA Piper swept to victory in this year's Midlands Corporate Ski Challenge held at Tamworth Snowdome. Nick Jew, Craig Armstrong and Nicky Randle took the plaudits after beating off 50 or so other challengers. For the last couple of years the event ran very successfully in Villars, Switzerland, but, in a concession to the recession, 2010 saw it came home to the Midlands.  

Dozens of museums across Nottinghamshire are offering free entry to their exhibits on Sunday, 21 March, 2010. They are all taking part in BBC Radio Nottingham's Big Day Out, a celebration of the county's history and heritage. Radio presenter Andy Whittaker is behind the idea.

The Moth is a 13-year-old storytelling organization founded by George Dawes Green , a St. Simon's Island, Georgia, native who couldn't bear being away from his circle of yarn-spinning friends back home. Vails Gate Fire Department held its Centennial Installation and Awards Dinner on Saturday, March 13 at Anthony's Pier 9 in New Windsor. Local dignitaries and emergency response agencies from as far away as Pennsylvania, congratulated Vails Gate for its 100 years of service to the community. The department has been preparing for this occasion since its 75th anniversary in 1985.  

Effective in late March, George Green will resign as director of development at Spokane Civic Theatre . He characterizes the parting as amicable and is exploring other opportunities in the Spokane area. Changes in the leadership at other local theaters have or will soon take place, and I'll report on them once I get confirmation.

A federal court judge has dismissed the Town of New Windsor from a lawsuit filed by the City of Newburgh last year in relation to Brown's Pond. The city named the town in the lawsuit along with Sarna Enterprises, Inc., the developer of Mount Airy Estates, also known as "The Reserve". The city alleges the Clean Water Act was violated when brown stormwater was discharged in the pond. U.S. District Court Judge McMahon dropped New Windsor from the suit last month because the town was not a proper party.  

6:30-8:30 p.m. March 10. Poet Laureate Billy Collins will join fellow poets George Green, Joshua Mehigan, Linda Pastan and David Yezzi at the Museum to celebrate poems from the anthology, "Bright Wings: An Illustrated Anthology of Poems About Birds," paired with their own work.  

RUSH hour commuters are facing delays to their journeys on one of the area's busiest routes this evening, after an earlier vehicle fire. Traffic is being held up along the A12 Eastern Avenue in Wanstead following the incident, after police closed one lane of the road between Preston Drive (George Green Tunnel) and the A406 North Circular (Redbridge Roundabout). The fire has been put out but the emergency services are still on the scene.
